At Lisa Mason School of Dance, we offer classes for children and adults of different ages, abilities and interests — from those taking their very first steps in dance to experienced dancers looking to develop their technique and performance skills.

Whether you love the discipline of ballet, the rhythm of tap, the energy of street dance or the excitement of musical theatre, our aim is to help every dancer learn, progress and, most importantly, enjoy dancing.

Whether you're looking for your child's first introduction to dance, opportunities to progress through examinations and performance, or an adult class where you can learn, keep active and enjoy dancing, we'll help you find the class that's right for you.

Our classes run throughout the week at LMSD Studios. Some line-dancing classes also take place at other local venues, as shown in the timetable below.

Ballet

Ballet provides the foundations for many other forms of dance, developing balance, coordination, strength, poise and musicality.

At LMSD, dancers learn classical ballet technique while building confidence and developing the control and discipline that help create a strong, capable dancer. Classes provide opportunities to progress through graded work, examinations and performance as dancers develop.

Tap Dancing

Tap dancing is all about rhythm, timing and musicality — creating music with your feet while developing coordination and technique.

LMSD tap classes combine energetic movement with cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. As dancers progress, they develop increasingly confident and precise footwork — and there is nothing quite like hearing a whole group tapping out a routine together in perfect time.

Modern & Jazz

Modern and jazz dance combine energy, creativity and expression, helping dancers develop flexibility, strength, coordination and confidence.

Classes explore a variety of movement and performance styles, incorporating floor work, jumps, musicality and expressive routines. Dancers are encouraged to develop not only their technique but their own performance style and confidence on stage.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance combines technique, creativity and expression, encouraging dancers to explore movement in a more fluid and individual way.

Classes help develop strength, flexibility, coordination and control while giving dancers opportunities to interpret music and express ideas and emotions through movement. Contemporary dance also encourages creative thinking, confidence and individual performance.

Street Dance

Street dance is energetic, expressive and great fun, combining dynamic movement with current music and contemporary styles.

Classes encourage dancers to develop rhythm, coordination and confidence while learning routines and exploring different street dance movements. It's a great way to build performance skills, develop individual style and enjoy dancing with others.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre brings together dance, acting and performance, giving dancers the opportunity to develop character, confidence and stage presence.

Classes explore routines, songs, scripts and characters inspired by the world of musical theatre. Dancers learn how movement and performance can help tell a story, developing the skills and confidence to bring characters to life on stage.

Acro Gymnastics

Acro Gymnastics combines dance with acrobatic skills, helping dancers develop strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness.

Classes are structured around age and ability, allowing dancers to develop their skills safely and progressively. As confidence and technique grow, dancers can work towards increasingly challenging movements while learning how to incorporate acrobatic skills into dance and performance.

First Steps

First Steps provides a fun and friendly introduction to dance for our youngest dancers, with Petite Ballet and Toddler Tap designed to encourage a love of movement from an early age.

Using music, movement, songs and familiar nursery rhymes, classes help young children develop coordination, balance, confidence and body awareness while learning through play and having fun.

Line Dancing

Line dancing is a fun and sociable way to enjoy dance while keeping active, with routines set to a wide variety of music.

Classes help develop rhythm, coordination, mobility and memory while providing an enjoyable form of exercise. You don't need a partner — just come along, learn the steps and enjoy dancing with the group.

Dance Workshops

Alongside our regular classes, LMSD also offers dance workshops throughout the year, giving dancers opportunities to try something different, explore new styles and learn from guest teachers.

Past workshops have included a Hamilton workshop led by a West End performer.

Workshops are another chance to develop skills, build confidence and, most importantly, enjoy dancing.

All classes, unless otherwise specified, are at LMSD Studios at 4 Hollands Road, Haverhill, CB9 8PP
